PPSI 2024 Teacher Programming
PPSI believes in supporting teachers of all levels of experience by providing opportunities to further their own study. We offer enrollment opportunities to observe PPSI Suzuki student classes as well as course enrollment in various teacher training classes.
July 15-19, 2024 IN-PERSON
Enrichment class "The Nuts and Bolts of Group Class" - An enrichment class focused on polishing group class skills and expanding one's tool box for both new and seasoned violin teachers" with Christie Felsing
This 10 hour enrichment class will take place in-person at PPSI over 5 days. Each day will have 2 hours of lecture/discussion time in the morning as well as additional recommended observations hours. Prerequisites: ECC and Unit 1 training in violin.
Come polish your group class skills! Those enrolled will have the opportunity to observe various group classes in action, plus present a short group class activity with feedback from the Trainer. Topics to be discussed may include, but not limited to:
Philosophy of Group Class: its purpose, benefits and function
What makes an effective group class?
Creating structure: flow and pacing of a group class
How to develop a group class over the course of a semester, with short and long term goals
What skills are needed as a group class teacher?
Introvert or Extrovert? Balancing one’s personality style in relation to effective group teaching
Ideas to fill your “Group Class Toolbox of Activities”
Tips on classroom management
Selling the Sizzle: use of Suzuki core repertoire and supplemental work

Cello Unit 7 with
Cello Unit 7 will take place in-person at PPSI. This 15 hour lecture and 8 hour observation course will take place over 5 days - 3 lecture hours each morning followed by observation opportunities in the afternoons. For audition requirements, please review the SAA Guidelines and follow the SAA protocols for audition videos and guidelines.

Teachers choose between online and in-person format but may not mix formats
SECE "Revisting Stage 1" with
PPSI is offering the NEW SECE Course "Revisiting Stage 1". This course will be offered concurrently in-person and online - note teachers may not mix options during the coursework. This 20 hour course will take place over 5 days - 4 hours each day (3 lecture hours and 1 SECE class each day)- resulting in 15 hours of lecture and 5 hours of SECE class. The course is designed for teachers who have registered a minimum of Stage 1 (teachers do NOT have to have any SECE teaching experience to register for this class). The course will use the newly revised SECE curriculum.
